In October we held our first One Million Pound Challenge, one of our biggest donation drives ever! This month-long collection effort helped us stock up on items for the coming winter, when donations are typically slower. We held a kick-off event at Stop & Shop stores in North Haven, Wallingford, Old Saybrook, Waterford and Berlin to get the donations flowing.
We were joined by WTNH News 8’s Sam Kantrow and Jim Watkins along with 99.1 WPLR’s Pam Roxbury from Chaz & AJ’s Morning Show. We exceeded our goal by raising over 44,300 donations, receiving an estimated 1.4 million pounds of donations!
Our trucks were ready to receive donations at
Stop & Shop parking lots during our kick-off event!
Thanks to our generous donors, we surpassed our million pound goal! We turned all of these items into store revenue which helps fund our programs.
Halloween makes October our largest sales and donation month. This year we saw an increase in sales of 5.6% from 2013. October 2014 was our highest sales month ever recorded, raising a grand total of $1.4 million.
To celebrate, we held our annual Goodwill Costume Contest and received several creative entries. All of these costumes were made with items purchased at one of our stores. We also joined 99.1 WPLR’s Chaz & AJ’s Monster Ball on Halloween night. Guests enjoyed taking pictures in costume at our Goodwill Photo Station!
Congratulations to 2014’s Goodwill Costume Contest winners!
Chaz & AJ’s Monster Ball was a night filled with costumes and lots of Halloween fun!
